A Letter from the Founder
By way of introduction, I am Peggy Bowie, President and Founder of Fresh Start Women’s Program and I am grateful for the opporunity to tell you about our unique support program for Women.
I was compelled to start this program because as a nurse and drug an alcohol counselor I became painfully aware that women challenged by addiction were grossly underserved in the area of recovery support and transitional housing – particularly women who lacked financial resources or who had addictions that led to encounters with the criminal justice system. Too many had become trapped in a cycle of addiction and homelessness that left them extremely vulnerable and separated from family support systems. Stigmatized and isolated, most that I encountered had lost hope.
Hope is what the name “Fresh Start” is meant to inspire. I believe that if people of conscience can work together using their strengths and resources to give these women a fresh start, we can permanantly change their lives for the better. It is a great relief to the women we serve to know that there are people in this world ready to offer them a second chance at life, as well as a safe place to begin their journey.
At our facilities located in Memphis, TN we provide women with recovery support, employment services, and life skills training in a family-style Christian community that provides a safe place for women to recover from addiction. We are approved by the Tennessee department of Mental Health Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services as a Recovery Support Provider.
I’d love to talk to you about our program. Please don’t hesitate to call me directly at 901.937.8077.
Sincerly,
Peggy Bowie
